Join us for the next annual effective altruism conference in Canberra, Australia!

EAGxAustralia is the annual conference held by the effective altruism community in Australia and Oceania. The conference aims to increase participants’ knowledge, skills and networks so we can all achieve as much good as possible.

Effective altruism is about answering one simple question: how can we use our resources to most effectively help others? Rather than just following our intuitions, Effective altruists believe that we should use evidence and careful analysis to find the most important causes and the best ways to work on them.

 

PURPOSE

EAGx conferences give you the opportunity to:

  • Meet like-minded, altruistic people
  • Discover how you can do good better
  • Familiarise yourself with core concepts within effective altruism
  • Attend dozens of talks and workshops
  • Discuss the latest ideas in the field of effective altruism
  • Share new research and ideas
  • Coordinate on global and local projects with experts in creating impact

 

AGENDA

The conference will kick-off with a dynamic panel of experts for a town-hall style keynote, and will be followed with presentations from several prominent public intellectuals and change makers.

 

LOCATION AND TIMING

The keynote will run from 6-9 pm on Friday, September 25th, 2020 at the Australian National University in Canberra. The conference itself will follow from 9 am-5:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday, September 26th and 27th, at the same location.

 

FORMAT

The conference will involve a range of lectures, panel discussions and workshops delivered by expert and experienced speakers.

 

TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING

Australian National University can be accessed by public transit. There is also paid parking near the venue.

 

FOOD

The conference will be catered to provide meals, snacks and refreshments. For ethical and environmental reasons all food will be vegetarian or vegan. We are aiming to provide a variety of gluten-free and nut-free options. Please let us know if you have any other special dietary needs.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

There will be photos taken at the event. Photo material may be used in social media and for future marketing. Please reach out to the organizers if you do not wish to be photographed.

 

TICKETS

We have limited capacity and expect to sell out, so please make sure to secure a place as soon as you can. All tickets are fully refundable until the date of the conference so there is no risk in buying early as you can always get a refund if you need it later.

As we don't know what the situation will be like come September, we're tentatively continuing with plans at this stage. However, we are prepared to cancel the conference if necessary.
