Ryan completed a PhD in Physics at the University of Queensland and helped organize the Effective Altruism UQ student group in 2018-2021. Since moving to Berkeley, California in Dec 2021, he has worked as Technical Director for the Stanford Existential Risks Initiative ML Alignment Theory Scholars Program and as a SERI MATS Research Scholar under the supervision of John Wentworth. He is currently completing a work trial for Open Philanthropy’s worldview investigations team. Ryan also attended Lightcone Infrastructure’s Icecone conference in Dec 2021 and completed EA Cambridge’s AGI Safety Fundamentals course in Jul 2021.
