Professor Peter Godfrey-Smith is an academic philosopher based at the University of Sydney. He specialises in philosophy of biology and philosophy of mind, with a particular interest in animal consciousness. He is the author of five books, including Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness, Theory and Reality: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Science, and Darwinian Populations and Natural Selection. Before returning to the University of Sydney, where he once studied, Peter held academic posts at Stanford, Harvard, the Australian National University, and the CUNY Graduate Center. In 2017, the Royal Society of New South Wales awarded him the History and Philosophy of Science Medal for his contributions to the philosophy of biology.
