EAGxAustralia 2023 Code of Conduct
Overview
At EAGxAustralia 2023 we aim to foster a friendly, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome attendees from a diverse range of backgrounds and levels of familiarity with effective altruism. This conference is an arena of curiosity and collaboration, where we encourage respectful discourse and the sharing of diverse ideas.
This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, speakers, organising staff, volunteers, and contractors. It also applies to online interactions (like on Swapcard) and any satellite events (official or unofficial). Your participation in any part of the event implies your agreement to abide by the following principles.
Principles
Inclusivity
We value the participation of every member and want everyone to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. As such, all participants are expected to show respect and courtesy to others throughout the conference.
Communication
We believe in the importance of good communication skills. When engaged in conversations, try to allow everyone to speak, avoid unnecessary jargon, limit interrupting or speaking over others, and strive to ensure your discussions are understandable to all participants.
Respect for Diversity
We ask all attendees to respect the broad range of differing opinions, experiences, and identities. Inappropriate or derogatory comments regarding age, sex, gender, ethnicity, religion, ability, or socioeconomic status will not be tolerated.
Zero Tolerance for Harassment
We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, offensive comments, deliberate intimidation, stalking, unwelcome sexual attention, inappropriate physical contact, and disruptive behaviour during talks or other events. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Repeated or severe infractions may result in expulsion from the conference.
Reporting
If you witness someone behaving inappropriately and are uncomfortable addressing it directly, we have several reporting channels available:
-
- Contact our community health contact Philippa Evans.
-
- Reach us via email at conference@eagxaustralia.com.
-
- Submit an anonymous report via this form.
All reports will be handled with earnestness and discretion. In response to a report, we may take any action we deem appropriate, including warnings, expulsion without refund, or contacting security or law enforcement. You are also welcome to propose actions that you think would be appropriate for us to undertake.
